Community Grooves, the Community Music School of Springfield Faculty Band is a new musical group that brings together a fresh, eclectic sound blending the many genres and traditions that are rooted in Springfield and American culture. The music is informed by jazz, funk, rock, classical and Latin music, to create a unique sound that includes original compositions and new arrangements of classic songs.
Community Grooves is led eight faculty including bassist, Pancho Tomaselli. Pancho is a seasoned musician and professional entertainer, having performed for decades with legendary bands such as War and Tower of Power. Jim Mondongo Messbauer, trombonist, is a musician, composer, arranger and performer. Jim has toured extensively and is the co-founder of several Latin and brass groups, including Groupo Mambique, music and rhythms of the Caribbean, South America and the Lower Antilles. Rick Marshall, drums, has been a force on the Springfield music scene for more than 30 years. He has toured the country with Matt “Guitar” Murphy of the Blues Brothers fame, and played and recorded internationally with numerous renowned musical groups. Jeremy Turgeon, trumpet, is an alummus of the Sci-Tech Band Program, and has been playing trumpet for 12 years. He has performed with Boston-based John Hanifin Band and is the band leader for the Jeremy Turgeon Quintet. The band also includes Scott Sasnecki, Andy Allen, saxophone, Jeff Fennell, tenor sax and clarinet, and Mara Penatzer, piano. The band includes CMSS Faculty members, Sonido Musica SPS/CMSS Partnership program faculty, and Americorp members.
