Alfredo Rodriguez Trio

Born and raised in Havana, Cuba, Alfredo Rodriguez’s passion for music overcame significant constraints. Dismissed by his first teacher, he practiced on a makeshift keyboard drawn on his parents’ dinner table, showcasing his determination. Alfredo’s talent led him to the Montreux Jazz Festival, where Quincy Jones invited him to the U.S., requiring him to leave his family and Cuban citizenship behind.

Rodriguez has performed on prestigious stages worldwide and earned a Grammy® nomination for “Guantanamera” from The Invasion Parade. He made history as the first non-Chinese artist on the English version of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo theme song, collaborating with Tan Dun, Siedah Garrett, and Quincy Jones.

His albums, including The Invasion Parade, Tocororo, and Duologue, reflect his Cuban roots and immigrant experiences. Featured by NPR’s All Things Considered, DownBeat, The New York Times, and more, Rodriguez has also performed for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert.

Touring internationally, Rodriguez shares his music and message of perseverance. His viral social media videos, featuring Cuban timba styles, blend tradition with innovation, resonating globally.
