Sarah Hanahan is an alto saxophonist hailing from New York City, turning heads with her explosive sound and musical depth. A disciple of jazz greats via the Jackie McLean Institute and Juilliard, Hanahan has played alongside legends like Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and the Mingus Big Band. Her debut record Among Giants is a bold statement of her arrival, featuring jazz royalty and a fearless sound rooted in bebop but leaping into the now. With regular sets at Smalls, Birdland, and Dizzy’s Club, she’s not the future of jazz — she’s the loud, brilliant now.
At this year’s festival, Hanahan will bring that same bold energy to the stage with a powerhouse band: Benito Gonzalez on piano, Nat Reeves on bass, and Khary Abdul-Shaheed on drums
